Leadership of open innovation communities within organizations:

In terms of theory, the leadership part of the Open-I project deals with the design of the leadership system as core element of a organization. Through theoretical considerations and a case study approach, we set out to identify the concrete instruments of leadership that positively influence the competence to engage in radical open innovation. As aframework we draw on four fields of leadership activities:

  • interaction processes in leadership,
  • leadership measuring system,
  • system of leadership incentives and
  • leadership selection and development system.

The setup of the leadership instruments mainly addresses the installation and the management of open innovation communities. Through field testing in businesses we aim to prove the effectiveness of an innovation oriented leadership system.
As a result, recommondations for the structure and implementation of an open innovation supporting leadership system are deduced.
